Even in good times household women suffer a great deal as a result of dependence on spouse/custodian virtually for everything needed to keep life and soul together. Lest we forget, these suffering women comprised married, single, widows, and divorced. Many of them have children of different age range that they look after. This means in economic recession or conflict crisis period these categories of women are in terrible social and economic state of affairs. They hardly make ends meet when it comes to food security, child education, clothing, healthcare, traditional festivities and even religious reverence such as relations visit in marital homes, in hospitals and sometimes in prisons. Women that failed to achieve legitimate means of meeting these social and economic responsibilities could be regarded desperate frustrated and deserve mitigation intervention. The husbands of some of these women absconded for a very long time due to the hard unbearable economic situation and they remain out of contact sometimes for ever. Cases in radio programs are living witness daily.
One way to assist women in this situational hardship is through empowerment comprising skills acquisition, microcredit support and provision of business development service. A potential aspect for women improvement is in the food value chain. Vast opportunities exist for women in traditional household food preservation and homebound food business. Women in clusters hold significant promise for intervention delivery in the food system. The women will be trained to prepare innovative food recipes that are popular among the new generation.
GGI women empowerment project is compassionate intervention to empower the vulnerable community members with practical entrepreneurial skills, revolving microcredit package and business support services. The effort is geared towards mitigating the women’s suffering through self-reliance, productivity and creativity
